The word “jaggo,” means wake up in the Hindi language, and embodies the main goal of the organization Jaggo: to wake up the world and educate them about the oppressed women living in the world around them. Jaggo is a nonprofit organization that began in 2018. It is run by high school students who raise awareness for helpless individuals who have been impacted by various events throughout their lives. Jaggo helps to create a peaceful and safe environment around the world, through connections with MeToo India and various NGOs across India. Additionally, Jaggo holds fundraisers and collects donations to aid women in crisis shelters and empower women to rise higher in their society. Jaggo has created numerous chapters across Southern California and sub-organizations across two continents. Despite being mostly based in India, Jaggo has helped women in the United States, Bangladesh, West Bengal, Odisha, and Cebu.
Jaggo has done a lot to help women across the world, even in this time of uncertainty. For instance, members of the Jaggo board attended a local women crisis shelter in North Orange County. The members distributed homemade masks and cards to coordinate a mask drive with YWCA North Orange County. The YWCA empowers generations of women and strives to eliminate racial inequality and prejudices. Additionally, Jaggo board members represented the organization at a local senior center, Villagio, where they packed and distributed homemade masks to people who needed them. By distributing masks during this pandemic, Jaggo ensures that underprivileged women have the right resources and opportunity to fight COVID-19 and be protected from it.
In addition to helping women in the United States, Jaggo has done much to empower women in small, rural regions of India. Jaggo has empowered women by giving them a voice to confront the prejudice and oppression they face from society. The organization has collaborated with over ten NGOs across India to educate victims of abuse on how to address their issues. The founder of Jaggo has conducted two trips to India to empower women who are unaware of and denied their privileges. Furthermore, Jaggo has launched a MeTooIndia app which allows for oppressed women to connect with charitable organizations, police departments, and the local media.
By leading such events and opening up different chapters of Jaggo around the world, the organization is trying to make a larger impact in the lives of women across the world. Jaggo stands for equality for women across the world and is committed to making a change in society, and in the lives of oppressed and underprivileged women.
